Msgr. Fr. Paul Mingana

  • He was born in Upper Sharanish Village (قرية شرانش), Zakho – Duhok, on 1 April 1968, where he completed his primary education in 1981.
  • On 15 September 1981, he entered Mar Yohanna Al-Habib Seminary (دير مار يوحنا الحبيب) in Mosul and continued his studies there until 1984. He then joined Mar Shimun Al-Safa Priestly Seminary (دير مار شمعون الصفا) in Baghdad, completing secondary school (Minor Seminary) between 1985–1986, after which he pursued his philosophical and theological formation at the Major Seminary from 1986 to 1991.
  • Following the Gulf War events in 1991, he sought refuge in Türkiye and later immigrated to Australia on 22 April 1992.
  • On 8 July 1995, he traveled to Rome to continue his priestly studies, and on 13 October 2001, he was ordained to the priesthood by the late Patriarch Raphael I Bidawid of blessed memory.
  • In June 2003, he earned a Doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University.

 

His pastoral ministry included serving as:

  • Assistant priest at St Thomas the Apostle Parish, Sydney (December 2003 – 2006).
  • Assistant priest at Our Lady Guardian of Plants (كنيسة مريم العذراء حافظة الزروع) Church (2007 – 2009).
  • Parish priest at St Thomas the Apostle, Sydney (September 2009 – 2016).
  • Pastor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Parish, Sydney (2016 – 2019).
  • He was elevated to the rank of Chorbishop (Msgr.) by Bishop Amel Nona in November 2019.

 

He then served as:

  • Chorbishop of St Thomas the Apostle Cathedral, Sydney (2019 – 2024).
  • Vicar General of St Thomas the Apostle Diocese, Sydney (2019 – 2024).

 

Currently:

  • He serves as Chorbishop at St George (خورنة مار كوركيس للكلدان الكاثوليك) Parish, Melbourne, beginning September 2024.
